Home Business Tip of the Day: Profiting from Hot Online Trends

Dear Entrepreneur,

The Internet has made doing business easier in so many markets and niches, including the Carefree Business Marc Charles outlines for you today.

It’s the ideal Carefree Business because:

  • You don’t need a huge amount of start-up capital — a few hundred bucks are all you need.
  • You don’t need a bricks-and-mortar storefront, employees, or equipment — just your computer.
  • You don’t need to quit your job — yet. (You can do it on the side until it replaces your current income.)

All that, and the profit potential for new entrepreneurs is huge.

Profiting from Hot Online Trends
By Marc Charles

I’m sure you’ve heard of the $1.2 trillion Chinese export market. It’s where some of the largest companies in the world make their money. They buy products manufactured in China for pennies on the dollar … and sell them for a huge markup.

But you don’t have to be a Walmart to get in on this opportunity.

Thousands of successful individual entrepreneurs use this model to make full-time incomes – and then some – working from home part-time. Because you can also get started with limited or no experience and not much money, it’s perfect for Carefree Entrepreneurs.

How do you do it? You harness the power of the Internet to:

  • Find products and manufacturers from a trusted source (you don’t have to store inventory, they ship directly from factory to customer)
  • Research the hottest products online right now (a few clicks and you’ll have all you need to know)
  • Sell to customers primed to buy (without setting up your own website, if you don’t want to )

A few weeks ago, you learned about the online resource used by insiders to find product manufacturers. Alibaba.com is the leading online marketplace for connecting overseas suppliers and entrepreneurs like you looking to import and sell products online. It’s easy to use. And on this site, which includes only quality goods, you can find pretty much any product you can think of. Everything from yoga mats to bulldozers.

This is great. You know where to find the products. It’s not something you have to worry about.

Now your challenge as a Carefree Entrepreneur is to figure which particular products are “hot” right now.

And the great thing is this is easy to do. With some very simple online research, you’ll soon have a range of products that can be sold quickly and profitably. And by tapping into trends, marketing your products will be easier.

3 Ways to Find Hot Products for Your Business

You’re starting an online business. And that means the best place to do your market research is – you guessed it – online. Here are the top three resources for finding hot products:

  1. Start with Google, specifically Google Product Search. (You can find it under the Shopping tab on the Google homepage, or at google.com/prdhp.) Scroll down and you’ll find a listing of current hot products – those that have been searched for and purchased by online customers. Google gets sales information weekly from hundreds of online businesses, so if a new trend pops up, you’ll see it here first.
  2. eBay Pulse (pulse.ebay.com) is another great resource. It tracks the top 10 searches – what customers are actively looking for – on its site. ebay started out offering mostly used goods and collectibles. But these days, eBay sellers offer a lot of new products. So it’s very popular with your target market of online shoppers.
  3. Lastly, check out the largest online retailer, Amazon. Its bestsellers page (amazon.com/gp/bestsellers) is a great place to identify products you should consider selling yourself. Thousands of people shop on Amazon every hour – it’s the go-to online shopping site. If it’s trending on Amazon, you have a money-maker on your hands.

So what’s hot right now?

I just checked out the three sites above and some of the big sellers of the moment are electronic gadgets (including cell phones, laptops, tablet computers, and mp3 players), women’s shoes, video games, and holiday decor.

Check out these research tools yourself today. Make a list of the top 10 products selling on each site: Google Product Search, eBay, and Amazon. It’s on these lists that you’ll find the in-demand products that you should be selling online with your import-export business. If you find a product on two or three of the lists, the money-making potential is even greater.

In the next essay in this series, we’ll show you how to hook up with suppliers on Alibaba.com and get the best deals so you can start importing the hot products you’ve identified today. You can start with one or two, ramping up to offer more as your business takes off.

Then later we’ll tackle how to start marketing your products once you’ve identified “hot” trends and found a supplier overseas. You’ll learn how to sell online – without having to set up your own website. eBay, Amazon Marketplace, and other online resources set up the virtual storefront you, allowing you to focus on marketing. Plus, each day these sites get thousands of visitors searching for products. That gives your business an automatic leg up.

If you’re eager to get started right away, check out my program, The China Wholesale Trader. In it I give you tips and tactics for finding and negotiating with manufacturers, marketing your business on the Internet, and much more.

Check it out here.

Import and Grow Rich

Maybe you’ve been hearing about all those “overnight” Internet success stories and always wish you could be next. Well, it’s finally time it happened to you …

One online entrepreneur we know, Valerie Johnson made $1.8 million last year selling … pajamas. And then there is the $25-million success story of Kevin and Lisa Hickey.

How’d they do it? They were able to get their products for pennies on the dollar and sell them for huge markups.

We want to show you how to get into the same type of easy-to-operate business. All you have to do is follow a simple and easy plan that walks you – step-by-step – through this online business that takes full advantage of our global economy and the Internet.

Home Business Tip of the Day: A Silver Lining in the Great Recession

A Silver Lining in the Great Recession
By Jason Holland

In the current economic crisis, there is a business that is booming. In fact, there has never been a better time to get in on this opportunity.

Due to demand, there are plenty of customers to go around – and there will be for years to come. And the Internet makes it easy to run this business on your schedule and from anywhere in the world.

Think of all the people looking for jobs. What if you could help them land their dream job… and get paid to do it? I’m talking $1,000 to $3,000 per week for just part-time work.

The unemployed are looking for an edge. They’re increasingly turning to consultants to help them craft resumes that will help them stand out from the crowd.

You could offer this resume consulting service to this huge, hungry market. It’s a great way to make a side income while you’re working on your online Carefree Business. Or if you like it, you could make it your primary business – the income potential is there.

No previous experience in human resources is necessary. And you don’t have to already know how to write a great resume. It’s a science. You just need proven outlines and strategies for what details you should include on a resume to make them irresistible to employers. And you can run this business completely online (and maybe a few phone calls), from marketing your services to consulting with clients.

By the way, there is a new bonus video presentation from Michael Masterson, available to new Carefree Entrepreneur members. You are getting this newsletter free as part of your Early to Rise subscription. But to sign up officially and get the bonus, just go here.

The market is huge for resumes. There are 14 million unemployed Americans right now.

Everyone from college kids looking for their first job to executives laid off due to budget cuts needs help. And there are also the underemployed and those who just plain want a new job. Says Julien Sharp, who got her start as a freelance resume consultant after years in the corporate world:

“Many realize their current careers are not going to grow, so they decide to start a completely new career. They need a resume that reflects how their past experience can support the new type of job they are seeking.”

Even in the best of economic times, there are 50 million Americans out there looking for another job with higher pay. So there is always a high demand for this service.

What makes it work is that most job hunters would prefer not to write their own resumes – 79 percent, according to a recent survey. They feel more confident when a pro does it for them.

“Ninety-nine percent of people out of work for the first time in years do not have a current resume,” says Julien.

Many of Julien’s clients realize a bad resume has been holding them back. And they don’t know how to fix it.

“Tom” is a recent client of Julien’s. As a financial analyst who had been steadily climbing up to the executive level in his company, he was laid off shortly after the economy started crumbling. Like so many people today, he had trouble finding work. And with four kids (from 5 years old to 16) to support, he was getting majorly stressed.

Turns out, Tom had everything he needed to get a great new job, except for one vital component.

Sure, he had plenty of experience and expertise. But prospective employers couldn’t see that because his resume was done so poorly.

Julien sees this type of thing all the time. And it’s a major part of her business. She calls helping clients whose resumes aren’t getting them interviews her “sweet spot.”

It boils down to one thing, says Julien: unsuccessful resumes just show what the candidate did in past positions …but they don’t show how well they did them. Julien made that simple change for Tom after she took him on as a client. And within hours of posting the revised version to Monster.com, he had received eight calls and three emails from employers. Eleven days later, the client had received a job offer.

To rewrite this resume, Julien was able to charge $225 an hour.

You can charge upwards of $150 an hour for quick resume tweaks – something you can do right after you start offering this service. Tackle total resume overhauls, writing resumes from scratch, putting together cover letters… and you could multiply that amount by three or four times. With extra services, like interview coaching and helping people get their resume in front of the right eyes with promotional pieces, you can charge even more.

The more experienced your client, says a long-time corporate manager, the more you can charge. Their resumes will be more in-depth and filled with their experience.

Charles Bryant is one of Julien’s fellow freelance resume writers. Before he got into the business, he had no experience at all in resume writing. But he quickly picked up the simple techniques and strategies that anybody can use to craft quality resumes – the same techniques Julien knows.

These days, he makes between $500 – $3,000 writing resumes. And he maintains that anybody can learn what he does and have similar success.

As I said, no previous experience is necessary. You just have to learn how to ask your client the right questions to make sure the right details make it into the resume. Armed with a proven client questionnaire – this is Julien’s “secret weapon” – for getting the most important information, and you can craft a great resume that will get your clients interviews and jobs.

You can make great money in the resume business – up to $150,000 per year – and help people find jobs and get back on their feet at the same time.

In Julien Sharp’s Pro Resume Writer Program, you learn how to write a resume that gets results. She’ll tell you everything that goes into the perfect resume. Armed with her templates and outlines and a proven questionnaire for getting the most important information from your clients, you’ll have the makings of a lucrative Carefree Business.

She’ll also show you how to market your new business so that you can pick and choose your clients and still make a great living.

What is an Open Architecture Business?

How Many … To Screw in a Light Bulb?
By Dan Kennedy

At Disney, the oldest joke about the Imagineers – goes like this:

Q: How many Imagineers does it take to screw in a light bulb?

A: Why does it have to be a light bulb?

I call this the Open Architecture Concept. Very, very, very, very few people, in percentage terms, in ratio to population, conduct their businesses or live their lives based on Open Architecture. To the contrary, they approach whatever business they are in by getting a small rule book from somebody or by observing peers, then treat that as a box with cement walls.

Some cultures are still all about closed architecture: caste systems that confine people to the same status in society as their parents, arranged marriages, discriminatory laws that make women chattel and prohibit them from so much as leaving their homes unaccompanied by a husband, father, or brother. Before the interstate highway system, we were a relatively immobile society, so over 70% of the people lived and died and never left whatever town they were born in.

In my business life, narrowly and broadly, I’ve never accepted closed architecture. A narrow example: I never let the client define the assignment. The client says: How much to have you write a sales letter? I say: Why does it have to be a sales letter?

A broad example: after doing it just once, I rejected the entire ad agency rule book about the way you get a client, wooing, wining and dining, getting a chance to do work on spec and present campaigns in open competition with other agencies.

Nuts to that. Nuts to free anything.

In even broader terms, I’ve practiced Open Architecture just about my whole life, about where I want to live, what I want to do. Most people do not.

What you will find with entrepreneurs and CEOs in the information marketing industry is an extraordinary embrace of Open Architecture. These are people who have created businesses from scratch and routinely go through the process of idea, often odd idea, to market to money.

Their businesses even defy categorization. They are publishers, but they are not in the publishing business. They are often membership associations, but are not in the association business. They put on seminars and conferences, but they are not in the conference business. They have group coaching programs and often do one-to-one coaching, but do not consider themselves coaches. And they operate outside the norms of each of those separate industries.

Traditional newsletter publishers operate very differently from information marketing businesses that, as part of their businesses, publish newsletters. They tend to arrange their businesses to suit their personal preferences.

Two may operate very similarly structured businesses that put customers into groups of 20 or 30, in fee-paid multi-day mastermind meetings, but one info-marketer loves travel, so he moves his meetings around to different sites; the other hates travel, and makes everybody come to him every time.

The cool thing about having Open Architecture–minded clients with businesses that can be grown, expanded, and diversified endlessly is that you don’t even need to compete for or wait for assignments – you can create your own by suggesting work on an unexploited aspect of the business or even some brand-new initiative.

Whether you do or not, these clients are always creating the next product, the next event, the next promotion. Their entire business is really about two things: marketing – via the written, printed, and spoken word, and delivery of content – via the written, printed, and spoken word.

Once you understand this strange tribe and its tribal language and customs and know where and how to find them, bubba, if you can’t stay busy, profitably, in this place, with these clients, you desperately and urgently need to marry rich.

For the copywriter, the information marketing industry is the place with streets paved with gold and money blooming on every tree. No other industry consumes copywriting like this one.

I know it intimately. I have started, bought, built, and sold information marketing companies small and large, niched and mainstream. I literally helped create the industry, as a huge number of today’s information marketing enterprises are owned by my students, clients, or at least people who’ve followed my model, and I also co-founded its trade association, the Information Marketing Association. I write copy for info-marketers and have for many years.

I can assure you, there are terrific clients waiting for you in this industry. They do not know who or where you are, and most lack the patience to find you. You do not know who they are or how to present yourself to them, but I can fix that.

It is as if there were wonderful apple orchards just over the horizon, out of sight from an entire town of hungry folks with money in their pockets and a love for apples, apple cider, and apple pie. I hope you’ll let me show you the best paths in.

But I want to return to my bigger point, the WHY you should let me show you the best paths in, or otherwise, somehow make it your purpose to establish yourself with such exceptional clients: so that you can practice Open Architecture, and design and live whatever Writer’s Life that you imagine and dream of and want.

Editor’s Note:

The Information Marketing Industry Wants You

There’s no doubt about it – Information Marketing is a very lucrative online business niche – perfect for Carefree Entrepreneurs. And it can be very lucrative for the people who create the advertising for info-marketing businesses as well: copywriters.
If you’ve ever thought about copywriting as a full-time freelance career … or as a way to make extra money while you grow your Carefree Business … there is no better guide to learning the ropes than Dan Kennedy. He’s spent 35 years in the trenches as a copywriter and marketing consultant, working with clients as well as in his own businesses.
In his new program, Dan Kennedy’s Writing for Info-Marketers Training and Certification, he gives you the benefit of his experience to help you craft compelling copy for info marketing (you can use what you learn in your own business, not just for clients). You’ll get the lowdown straight from Dan on how info-marketing copy is different and how to tap into this huge … and growing market.
For a limited time, you can get this program thanks to Carefree Entrepreneur’s relationship with American Writers & Artists Inc. And you can also receive the discount Dan is offering AWAI members … but only until tonight, Sept. 23, at midnight. Go here for details.
